They shall have such tactics, strategies and machines that no foe will best them in battle. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Battleborn...and they shall know no fear.” - Herald [[Kokichi Muta]], page 1138, [[Romance of the Four Towers]]. The Quote is taken from a famous but dramatic retelling of the war, titled Romance of the Three Towers. Herald Kokichi Muta, the mechanical genius who helped fight against the cursed trio during the war of ascension. He supposedly said this quote as he created the Battleborn at the peak of the war between the cursed trio and the heralds. The true history of the events is thus: The cursed trio had amassed a sizeable army at this point of the war, Nagash raising the dead by the thousands, Miquella charming masses to join their side, and Be’lakor marching through the outside with an army of dark elves; they were severely outnumbered, outgunned and outmatched. Alice had her drakes, but they could only do so much against so many, and simply in pure numbers, their odds of victory if battle were to come were slim. So, Kokichi Muta devised a plan to create a completely loyal mechanical army of equal size to the one they would meet. Using souls of the dead to power these automata would additionally strip Nagash of his main advantage, making the resurrection of enemy forces during the battle impossible. He set to work, day and night, to create legions of these battleborn. There are only a few famous battleborn known to us today: generals and heroes during the war. Following the war, the doom of Wyveria and the defeat of the dark brothers, Kokichi and many of the Harbingers fell during the battle, leaving the battleborn masterless.  This break in the magical connection between master and machine granted the battleborn a new sentience, accidentally birthing a new race in the process. They would eventually leave the tower and spread across the world, in some regions being treated as heroic veterans, while in others and nothing but machines and sub-sentient.  There are two major Battleborn factions which splintered after the war. One is led by General Optimus Prime, who remains loyal to the harbingers and humanity; And one is led by Megatron, who resents their creators and the discrimination they face in the world and follows in the footsteps of the cursed trio. Other Famous individual battleborn include Samus, Arnold, Grimlock, Ultron, Mega Man, and Alita.
